This week we have gone a little bit bananas with instructions! We have discussed what instructions are, why we use them and what they can be used for. The instructions we have been focusing on this week are how to peel a banana. We have learnt a new song to help us with the instructions so please ask your child to share that with you. Alongside the importance of instruction we have also look at sequencing them using time connective ‘First, Next, Then, Finally, After that’ and exploring imperative verbs or the ‘bossy words’ that instruct us exactly what to do. (For example: ‘jump, sit, turn, put). On top of all this we have also been making our own healthy banana splits and reviewing the instructions in order to write a recipe next week.
In maths this week we have been exploring 9 and how to partition it in all ten ways. We have also been introduced to a new representation, the tens frame. We have been learning how to interpret a tens frame correctly and looking at how to change a tens frame into an equation. Next week we will be moving onto number bonds to 10!
In phonics next week we will be continuing our blends with a focus on:
‘gr, nt, br and sp’.
Have a restful weekend,
The Year One Team
