This week we delved further into our new topic ‘The Dark Side’ exploring poetry linked to the dark.

In English we have learnt about rhyming words through poetry and practiced applying our new knowledge independently within our learning. As a whole class activity we have rehearsed speaking poetry using onomatopoeia words. In addition to this the children have completed some incredible editing of sentences, using their knowledge of capital letters and full stops and made very thoughtful reflections upon their own work. We have even written some amazing adventure stories about a train journey.

In Phonics this week we have been practicing our ear and air sounds. How many words can you find with these in them over the weekend?

In PE we have been working on our balance by learning different ways to jump and land. Our favourite jump so far has been a two footed jump with a 180 degree turn! Next week in PE, Year 1 will be continuing to develop their ability to balance and jump in a variety of different ways. We will also be taking part in the daily mile, which so far has been really successful in getting the children to engage in running and increasing the children’s focus and listening throughout the school day.

Next week we are looking forward to reviewing our Autumn terms learning for Maths so far. In English we will be introducing a new text and learning all about asking and writing questions. Can you practice writing or asking some questions over the weekend?

Next week in Phonics we are learning ure and er. Can you practice writing these over the weekend?

Thank you once again Year One for your wonderful work this week!

Please can all children have warm PE clothes in school at all times as activities may be outdoors.
