The Three Little Pigs

29th April 2021

Once upon a time there were not one, not two but three classes called Acorns, Pumpkins and Sunflowers, they WOWED all their grown ups with the super work they did on the Three Little Pigs…

Thank you to all the children in Reception for their wonderful learning this week- you have been great! This week we learnt the story of the Three Little Pigs using story maps, role-play and actions, we then enjoyed writing our own version of what the wolf and pigs said to each other. We ceased this opportunity to discuss which materials would make a waterproof roof and did lots of predicting and testing… fantastic learning! In Maths we have been building on our knowledge of 2D shapes and were introduced to some 3D shapes too. Outside we worked as a community to plan and then build the three Pig’s houses, carefully thinking about the shapes for doors, windows and even chimneys! This was a fantastic opportunity for us to apply our 3D knowledge too!

Next week’s learning:

Group Learning: In Group Learning, we shall be introducing the children to the fairy tale: The Gingerbreadman.

Who are the characters in the story? Who does the Gingerbreadman meet along the way? Explore other stories with animal characters.  During our adult-led sessions the children will be introduced to ‘TasteEd’ where we will discuss food hygiene and the ingredients used to make our own delicious ‘Gingerbread men cookies’. We are sure that feeling root ginger in its natural form and smelling/tasting it in our baking, will certainly wake up our senses!

Phonics: In Phonics this week we will be teaching the children the digraph ‘er’

Maths: Doubling- doubling our cooking ingredients.
