We have thoroughly enjoyed this week in Reception, our focus has been on creepy crawly Mini-beasts! We started the week with small groups going into the forest on a mini-beast hunt. We found all sorts of mini-beasts living under stones and underneath the leaves. It was certainly a tickly or slimy hands on experience! On Tuesday we continued our learning about animals and mini-beasts on our very first school trip to Shepreth Wildlife Park. We would like to say a huge thank-you to all of the wonderful volunteers who made this trip an enjoyable experience for all our children. Children were privileged and got to hold a Giant African snail, a mother and daughter cockroach family and a very friendly stick insect who did not mind being stroked by ninety Reception children!  We have been really enthusiastic and engaged in our Rainbow Challenges this week- we have really focussed on looking closely at the fine details on mini-beasts and then used some very special art pens to design our own mini-beast stones.  We wanted to say a huge thank you to the staff who help to take such great care of all the creatures and sharing all their wonderful knowledge with us; so we each wrote a letter of appreciation. We have drawn our own maps and labelled all the different creatures that we saw.  We discussed what kind of habitat the minibeasts in our school need to feel safe and comfortable which led to creating a cosy ‘bug hotel’. We challeged ourselves to add two prices of toys togther and solve the equation! We have had an extremly positive and enjoyable week of learning in Reception!!
