We have been very busy this week in our Reception classes thinking about the difference between fiction (stories) and non-fiction (fact) books. We enjoyed looking at the different features of non-fiction books such as the contents page. We explored our non-fiction books to find lots of facts about different planets. First we found the planet in the contents page and then we wrote our favourite facts. Our challenges have been very popular this week and have challenged us to apply lots of different learning. We enjoyed writing acrostic poems and playing blow football; writing number lines and making paper plate planets.
Our focus will move onto our transition to Year One and welcoming our new starters to Reception. We will ask the children to consider their highlights of the Reception year and think about their hopes for Year One.
Red- making a welcome to Acorns/Pumpkins/Sunflowers class for the new to Reception Teddy Bears picnic, we will decorate these signs with our favourite memories of Reception.
Yellow- writing five facts about us for our new teachers.
Blue- making a map of a Year One classroom.
Green- making a film for the new Reception children about what to expect.
Orange (teacher led)- tour of Year One classroom and learning street.
A message from FOCUS
Are you and your family ready for an EPIC Summer Fayre?! Join us tomorrow (6/7) from 11 am-2 pm. Entrance has been changed to Main Gate; £1 suggested donation per family.
FOCUS is thrilled to announce a £10,000 donation to UCPS for Playground Equipment, which is being matched with a community grant of £12,500. This means a whopping £25,000 for a new playground structure, listed as a top priority by parents for where their parent-earned funding should go. We’re pleased to share that HILL has sponsored our event for £1,000 and MEARS Facilities Management for £500! We are close to meeting our goal of £2,500 for the last phase so that we can receive the full matching grant, but need your help at the Summer Fayre. Can you please sign up below to volunteer for a short 45-minute shift to ensure our kids have an additional playground to play and stay active?
**** The Year that has the MOST parents/students signed up to volunteer by MIDNIGHT tonight, Friday, 5th of July, will receive an ice cream / ice lollies PARTY for their classrooms (date TBC with school). (We’ll combine counts from Year 4 and Year 5.) At the time of this writing, Y1 is leading with 7 volunteers! Whoop! Students are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as well. ****
