This week has been short but sweet. The children have returned from their holidays refreshed and ready to take on our final summer term and all that it has to offer. We have reduced our challenges to three this week – the children have been eager to create their own fairy tale character quizzes, use a range of materials to create popstick characters and rebuild the homes of the ‘Choo Choo’ people who moved into our playground over the holidays and had their homes destroyed by a clumsy dragon.
Friday has been a real highlight with the children dressing up and really enjoying their different characters and learning from each other.
Next week we are looking forward to delving into the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs’, learning about different materials that can be used to build a house and which ones might withstand different types of weather (like big storms or huffing and puffing wolves!).
Our new sounds for phonics next week will be: ow and oi and we will be focusing on the tricky troll word ‘he’.
In maths we will be revisiting the idea of weight, comparing different house warming gifts that the pigs have received.
Our rainbow challenges will be:
Yellow challenge: Retelling of the Three Little Pigs, using the iPads to record their stories.
Blue challenge: Tessellating 2D shapes to make a house for the three little pigs.
Red challenge: Pig paper plate puppets, making a 3D nose and attaching ears.
Purple challenge: Going on a mini-beast hunt as we did last term but hopefully now more of them have come out to play.
Green challenge: Using large objects to build a house that we can sit inside.
Please note: When the weather is warm as it has been this week, children MUST have a hat with them otherwise they will not be allowed outside to play. Also, sun cream is preferable for legs and arms.
